Welcome to the Home of the Wyoming Rodeo Association!
A Lil' Bit of History
The Wyoming Rodeo Association has been in existence since 1959 and formally incorporated in 1963. Our membership consists of a variety of individuals such as Professional Rodeo Cowboys, Businessmen, Bankers, High School students, College students, and Teachers to name a few. Within our membership, the association develops the board of directors.
WRA is a unique organization for it's diversity in contestants and members. Anyone may belong to this association which averages 250-350 members each year. the WRA is ideal for those who are unable to travel much and in turn compete when they have time. THe WRA plays a great roll for the older members who would like to continue in the sport of rodeo and for those who travel with their family. The WRA has had members throughout the course of the years who have become PRCA World Champions and who have gone to the NFR many times.
The WRA has several rodeos each year where members compete for yearend awards. The WRA also co-sanctions shows with CPRA - Colorado Pro Rodeo Association, NSRA - Nebraska State Rodeo Association, IMPRA - Intermountain Pro Rodeo Association, and Northwest Ranch Association. The WRA has weekly rodeos in Pine Bluffs, WY, Granby, CO, and Fraser, CO during the summer, along with additional Wyoming rodeos including, Cheyenne, Green River, Hulett, Encampment, Big Piney, Baggs, Saratoga, and Rawlins. Our members have access to over 40 rodeos each year.
The WRA not only provides the basic duties of an association, it also takes part in contributing to youth participation. Included in the yearend awards, is the Youth Boy and Youth Girl Award. The highest money earner Youth (still in high school or younger) will each recieve awards. The association contributes to a college scholarship at LCCC in Cheyenne and plans to continue to support Wyoming college students. Each year, the board seeks new ideas to encourage students to carry on the heritage of Wyoming. The association strives each year to look at ideas to enhance our communities, and improve the association as a whole for many generations.
